An overview of a robust continnous speech recognition system for mobile information devices is given. To accommodate hardware cost restrictions, personal and mobile usage, and varying acoustic operation conditions, the recognizer requires compact speech modeling, background noise compensation, optional speaker adaptation and reliable speech detection. The presentation gives some experimental results on in-vehicle hands-free speech data.
