This paper addresses the problem of the implementation of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools for Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). After analyzing why some complex NLP application appear to be inappropriate for CALL, we show, with precise examples, that the more promosing progresses are expected to come from NLP basic processes, as morphological tagging or lemmatization.
