This paper aims at putting forward some speech styles which are based on the use by 12 speakers of two semantic model patterns and specific pitch parameters under three sets of reading instructions. These semantic patterns give rise to a weighting. All the numeric values issued from semantic models and from pitch parameters are reduced to a four-level scale in order to make all the conditions comparable. This four-level scale seems to be a good compromise between the little part of text signification that each model conveys and all the other factors, linguistic and extra-linguistic. Finally the study shows that the model distribution is a function of the instruction strengh, when pitch parameter distribution, whatever the reading instruction may be, is nearly the same : the stricter the instructions are, the slower the speech rate, and the greater the propotion of models which take semantically into account local lexical relations.
