Some phonetic phenomena of maximally fast reading, i.e. reading as fast as possible, are investigated. A production and a perception experiment (of German texts) was performed and the general speaker and hearer specific problems are discussed. Phonetic transcripts were checked against standard reduction rules of German. More extensive reductions, speaker specific as well as speaker independent, were observed.
