Spontaneous Speech and Phonological Models: The Role of Signal-Independent Information in Linguistic Communication

Current phonological models are built on an "abstract11 phonetic form only existing in the mental representations of researchers and in the "laboratory" realizations of speakers. Direct spectroacoustical observation of spontaneous speech raises a lot of new problems that only a close collaboration between phoneticians and phonologists may solve.
