Articulatory paths for fricatives produced in two different speech styles were compared, in similar vowel contexts. A trace indicating the acoustically relevant parameter of cross-section area was used. The results suggest that the deceleration phase into the constriction and the acceleration phase out of it may be stable features. The static end point states found in the slower speech-like sequences were absent in the connected speech.
