Characteristics of a speaker's voice have been shown to differ in quiet, noisy and echoey environments. To demonstrate the changes that occur, 12 subjects spoke in a quiet environment, with added noise and under 100 ms echo. Sections of each utterance were analyzed for differences in amplitude, fundamental frequency, duration, and frequencies of the first two formants. The results show that the principal changes are in duration and amplitude.
