The NATO research study group RSG.10 started a project on the effect of stress on speech production. The underlying question is the consequences of variation of the speech quality on speech based systems.

The study includes the compilation and dissemination of data bases in order to trigger research in a wider community. Presently three data bases are available. The respective stressors are: sleep deprivation, workload and emotional stress. The relevance of calibration of the data base with respect to objective and subjective stress measures is discussed.

For some examples an analysis at phoneme level seems to be required as phoneme group specific effects were observed.
