The IBM European Voice Technology Development organisation is based in Laboratories in Boeblingen, Germany (near Stuttgart), and Hursley, United Kingdom, (new Winchester). It is responsible for the product development of current and future speech technologies (covering speech synthesis, speech recognition, speech understanding). These technologies are used within IBM’s telephony and embedded solution offerings (IBM WebSphere Voice Server, embedded ViaVoice). To strengthen our teams we are looking for professionals or university hires for several permanent and temporary positions as Software Engineers in Speech Technology Processing, primarily but not limited for Speech Synthesis and Recognition.

Please apply through this web-link (http://www-5.ibm.com/employment/de/jobs/e1404en.html), or by mail to Dr. Matthias Gruetzner (mgruetz@de.ibm.com) or Dr. Eric Janke (eric_janke@uk.ibm.com).

The major tasks in our team are:

·          Product development of newest, advanced speech technologies

·          Development of speech processing technologies for research and product prototypes (Multilingual & Expressive Speech Synthesis, Large Vocabulary Speech Recognition, Telephony/Embedded Acoustic Systems, Natural Language Understanding, Multilingual Speech Recognition)

·          Architecture, design and development of speech technology tools to simplify the training and analysis of speech processing systems

·          Execution of experiments for evaluation of synthesis quality and recognition accuracy

·          Fast and efficient implementation and use of newest speech technologies on different OS platforms in conjunction with IBM Research and/or the scientific community

·          Development of language specific acoustic & linguistic data & parameter sets for various usage scenarios (Desktop, Telephony, Embedded)

·          Adaptation and solving of language specific problems specifically for European languages

It is of advantage that you have a degree in computer science or electrical engineering as well as profound and applied (algorithmic) knowledge in one or several of the following areas:

·          Speech processing (synthesis, recognition, natural language understanding, dialog systems)

·          Acoustic & linguistic speech processing

·          Multi-dimensional speech signal processing

·          Architecture / system-design / implementation of stochastic algorithms of speech processing systems (HMM, statistical parsing)

·          Pattern recognition

·          Broad theoretical and applied knowledge (statistics, acoustics, phonetics, linguistics) in development and research of speech synthesis, recognition and speech understanding systems

·          PhD or comparable work experience preferred

In addition you should have profound, applied knowledge and experience with one/several operating systems (Linux, Windows) and modern programming languages (C++, XML, scripting languages)

Languages: native in Spanish, Italian, or French, fluent English, basic knowledge in German would be advantages.

The primary work location for speech synthesis hires will be Boeblingen, Germany, for speech recognition Hursley, UK.
