Up to three PhD students in speech science and technology

at the School of Computer Science and Communication, KTH

The speech communication research at the Department of Speech, Music and Hearing (TMH) is focused on the acoustic and physiological characteristics of speech as well as applications in human-computer interaction. The research is multidisciplinary and includes the areas of physics, computer science, phonetics and linguistics. TMH is a very active partner in both Swedish and international research collaborations, including a number of EU projects. Within the EU projects HaH, MonAMI, Muscle and ASPI and the Simulekt-project funded by the Swedish Research Council, we now wish to hire up to three PhD students working in the areas of acoustic speech synthesis, multimodal synthesis of computer-animated talking heads and articulatory-acoustic modeling. The areas are described in a separate document. Since the research areas are closely interrelated, it it possible that the recruited PhD students will work in several project and tasks, depending on their competences.

General qualifications

A Master's degree in computer science, engineering physics, electronics or similar is a suitable background. Previous experience in programming, phonetics, acoustics and signal processing is a merit. Additional specific qualifications for each of the research areas are listed in each of the descriptions. The position requires good mastery of English in both writing and speaking. One criterion for selection is the applicant\u2019s estimated ability to finish the PhD studies in time.

To diversify its competence, KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University, especially as concerns its gender structure.
