Higher-level linguistic information in a text-to-speech system for danish

P. Molbaek Hansen, N. Reinholt Petersen, J. Rischel, C. Henriksen

The main components of the Danish text-to-speech system are presented in outline. Then follows the main theme of our paper, viz. some illustrations of the importance of syntactic information for arriving at an adequate phonological representation of the input, and a description of the most recent version of the formalism we use to express syntactic structuring of Danish sentences in order for a parser to assign suitable morpho-phonemic representations to input sentences. Some recent improvements on the rules for the phonetic behaviour of certain Danish segments and the inclusion of a new type of voice source in the synthesizer program are reported, and finally, some views on the state-of-the-art of text-to-speech research in general are presented.
