The user-unix dialogue: a novel integrated approach to enhancing the operating system interface

P. Lefebvre, G. Duncan, F. Poirier

Man-machine dialogue with the Unix operating system presents difficulties for occasional, non-expert system users. This paper presents a novel approach to enhancing the User-Unix interface through multi-modal dialogue techniques. In particular, this paper explores the benefits, nature and treatment of system commands which integrate both graphics- and voice-based information pathways. Keywords: Spoken Dialogue, Natural Language Processing, Man-machine Interface.
