Man-machine dialogue with the Unix operating system presents difficulties for occasional, non-expert system users. This paper presents a novel approach to enhancing the User-Unix interface through multi-modal dialogue techniques. In particular, this paper explores the benefits, nature and treatment of system commands which integrate both graphics- and voice-based information pathways.
