Inger Karlsson

Dept. of Speech Communication and Music Acoustics, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden

The paper will give an short exposd of some of the experiments performed to produce good and different voice qualities through the history of speech synthesis. The experiments have mainly been concerned with creating one or more natural-sounding voices for a specific speech synthesiser. Some examples of productions of emotive speech and of changes of voice qualities between for example normal and breathy voices are also mentioned. Emphasis will be on recent synthesis experiments performed at KTH.
