The larynx signal: aspects of production and perception

Adrian Fourcin

The two main aims of this brief discussion of the larynx signal are to: use continous speech as the basis of measurement rather than to rely solely on sustained voice tokens base quantitative appraisal on the use of unsmoothed larynx period by period analyses These approaches may help to make it feasible to examine patterned structures of voice activity which are otherwise difficult to discern. Particular examples are given of the application of these methods to normal and pathological speech in regard to range, regularity and an aspect of voice quality.
