Dysphonia severity index: a multiparameter approach for the assessment of voice quality

We here present an index which can be regarded as an objective measure of dysphonia. This index called the Dysphonia Severity Index (DSI), is based upon the combination of several complementary voice quality measurements. It is constructed by means of multivariate statistical methods. The more the index for a patient is negative, the more his vocal performance worsens. The DSI quantifies the subjective perception of the voice of a patient, and is especially useful for the evaluation of therapy for patients suffering from vocal fold pathologies.
