This paper reports on a methodology developed to study prosody in spontaneous speech, incorporating four different kinds of analysis. Two of them, auditory analysis and acoustic-phonetic analysis applied to a corpus of spontaneous speech in Swedish and French, are presented. Speaking styles in both languages are illustrated with examples of pitch patterns used in read versus spontaneous Swedish and in political rhetoric in French.
