Our experiment aims at studying compensatory shortening phenomena in Spanish spontaneous speech taking into account as a variables stressed syllable duration and total duration of surrounding unstressed fragments. Results show that in Spanish there is not compensatory shortening, which is supposed to be characteristic cf stress-timed languages.
