A More Holistic View of Literacy Specifications in the Context of Speech-based Systems

Carolin Wienrich, Astrid Carolus

The concept of digital literacy has been introduced as a new cultural technique that is regarded as essential for successful participation in our (future) digitized world. With the increasing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), media- and technology related literacy concepts need to be extended to meet AI-related developments and progress. Recently, this extended concept has been introduced as AI Literacy (short: AIL). In this context, the Competence Behavioral Model of AI Literacy (short: CBM-AIL) has been introduced specifying the dimensions of AI Literacy and arguing for a more holistic view – beyond mere technological and cognitive aspects. This paper transfers the CBM-AIL to the area of speech-based technology. Further, it gives an overview of the dimensions and subdimensions of the model and its meaning for the users interacting with speech based technology.
