Subject: ESCApad #3 Date: Thu, 18 Jun 1998 08:45:22 +0100 From: Isabel Trancoso To: esca_list@speech.inesc.pt ============================================================================ ESCApad number 3 June 17, 1998 ============================================================================ Dear ESCA members, ESCApad #3 is a very short bulletin with two main purposes. The first and most important one is to draw your attention to ESCA's 10th anniversary. Formally, I guess that we should have celebrated in March 27th (the date the statutes were deposited in Grenoble), but we'll open the official celebration with a small delay. The second purpose is also related to this anniversary. We plan to make a special NESCA issue dedicated to this event and would like to invite all members to contribute. How? Imagine yourself in 10 years time attending EUROSPEECH'2009, and write about it. All contributions should be sent to the NESCA Editor: Antonio Rubio (rubio@hal.ugr.es) until July 10th. ESCA WORKSHOPS: In the past month of May, two ETRWs have been organized: - the ETRW on "Modelling Pronunciation Variation for Automatic Speech Recognition" which took place in Rolduc, the Netherlands. - and the STiLL workshop on "Speech Technology in Language Learning", which took place in Marholmen, Sweden. Thanks to the organising committees and to the active participation of many researchers (69 in Rolduc, and 84 in Marholmem), these workshops were both enjoyable and informative. Proceedings can be ordered, as usual, through the ESCA secretariat. ESCA SUPPORTED EVENTS: Three other ESCA supported events also took place very recently in Granada (Spain) and Vigso (Denmark). The first LREC conference gathered over 500 participants from all over the world and the NORSIG'98 workshop gathered 85. Don't forget to see the reports (and pictures) from these four events in the coming issue of NESCA. ESCA's MENTORING SCHEME (in memory of Christian Benoit): The response to the suggestion made in the last ESCApad issue was very favourable, and the Board is still looking into how such a scheme might be implemented - all suggestions welcome! You'll hear from us again in July, Isabel Trancoso ============================================================================= All additional information at the ESCA web-site: http://ophale.icp.inpg.fr/esca/ =============================================================================
