The ISCA board considers, however, that it is also very important to identify new and budding topics/fields of future importance, and to provide support for their development. In particular, we are eager to promote those topics/fields for which there are not yet enough systematic organizational efforts in existing academic societies because of their inter- or cross-disciplinary characters. The support may be made in various ways such as; by encouraging interested people to start discussions on the web, by helping them to give lectures/seminars, to organize workshops and (special) sessions at Interspeech events, and to form special interest groups. The purpose of this questionnaire is to ask for your opinion/ suggestion on such topics/areas which you are either willing to promote by your own efforts, or hoping to see them promoted by others. Your cooperation will be much appreciated in planning future activities of ISCA. Reply to ISCA board (to be sent to: Hiroya Fujisaki interdis@isca-speech.org) 1. Your name 2. Proposed name of a new topic/field (the name can be tentative, or can be omitted if you cannot think of a good one for the moment). 3. Please start preparing it now. The deadline for submission is March 30, 2001. Since the last ISCApad a few updates have been advertised on the Eurospeech 2001 Web server. This mainly concerns the special pages on the "Eurospeech Special Events (ESE's)" and the Satellite Workshops that are arranged in connection to the conference. Please note, that we are inviting prospective authors to submit papers to ESE's and observe that it is planned to issue special books on the basis of some of the ESE's. The books will be based on extended versions of papers presented at the ESE's. The ESE IMAGINATION2001, organized by ELSNET now has the possibility to contribute a paper to a special issue of the International Journal of Speech Technology on the event (http://www.elsnet.org/imagination2001). A new Eurospeech Special Event is the Education Arena. Also note that some of the Satellite events take place in Aalborg just before or after the conference. We are looking forward seeing you in Aalborg in September Kind regards Paul Dalsgaard ============================================================================= CALL FOR PhD SUMMARIES The European Student Journal of Language and Speech (WEB-SLS) The European Student Journal of Language and Speech (WEB-SLS) is pleased to announce the extension of its policy which now includes summaries of on-going PhD theses. We believe that this will enable students working in neighbouring topics to be informed on one-another's work and probably exchange ideas, experience and initiate future cooperation. Therefore, from now on WEB-SLS accommodates three kinds of articles: Summaries (up to three pages) of on-going PhDs, explaining their main aspects of research. Extended PhD summaries, formatted as regular papers with references to all relevant authors' publications, accepted upon supervisor confirmation only. Regular papers that pass through a fast review process involving at least two reviewers. We welcome your (or your students') contributions in the Editor-in-Chief's e-mail (fakotaki@wcl.ee.upatras.gr). For other more information please check the WEB-SLS site: Best wishes Nikos Fakotakis WEB-SLS Editor-in-Chief ============================================================================ All additional information at the ISCA web-site: http://www.isca-speech.org The ISCA secretariat can be contacted at: info@isca-speech.org Requests concerning membership, Speech Communication and ordering Proceedings should be forwarded to the Secretariat.
