The SynSIG constitution requires three months notice prior to the election. We consequently announce hereby that elections for officers will be held between May 15 and June 15, 2002. All members of SynSIG may nominate any other members for these positions. Candidates for Chairperson and Secretary shall be members in good standing of ISCA at the date of the election. All candidates must be nominated by at least two other members of SynSIG and must agree to be candidates. Members of SynSIG are assumed to be any persons subscribing to the SynSIG list or who have otherwise expressed their desire to be members of SynSIG. Name and country (if known) of all SynSIG members will be displayed on the SynSIG web site (http://www.slt.atr.co.jp/cocosda/synthesis/synsig.html); please notify us within a week if you object to this information being accessible on the web. If you wish to nominate candidates as SynSIG officers, please do so by email to the current steering committee (synsig@isca-speech.org) or to one of the acting officers. The present acting officers are: Chairperson: Wolfgang Hess (University of Bonn, Germany), wgh@ikp.uni-bonn.de Vice Chairperson and ISCA Liaison Representative: Nick Campbell (ATR Japan), nick@atr.co.jp Secretary and Treasurer: Bernd Möbius (University of Stuttgart, Germany), bernd.moebius@ims.uni-stuttgart.de Evaluations Liaison Officer: Jan van Santen (CSLU at OGI, USA), vansanten@ece.ogi.edu Wolfgang Hess has decided that his responsibilities as the ISCA Secretary need to have first priority and that he will therefore not accept nominations to continue as the SynSIG Chairman. Likewise, Jan van Santen has decided that his responsibilities as the Director of CSLU will not allow him to continue as the SynSIG Evaluations Liaison Officer and that he will therefore not accept nominations for this post. Closing date of the nomination period is May 12, 2002. Once the list of candidates has been established you will be informed by email (around May 15, 2002) of the list of candidates and of the procedure for voting. Please forward any questions, suggestions or comments directly to one of us or to synsig@isca-speech.org unless you think it is a question which deserves public discussion, in which case please send it directly to the list (synsig@slt.atr.co.jp). Best wishes to everyone - you might be interested to know that at the last count there were 194 subscribers to the SynSIG list!
