EXTENDED SUBMISSION DEADLINE September 1st 2002 Contact: Stepahnie Seneff at seneff@sls.lcs.mit.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _ Call for Papers International Journal of Speech Technology Special Issue on Chinese Spoken Language Technology Research activities in the area of Chinese spoken language processing have been expanding very quickly in the past decade. Many practical technologies have been explored to demonstrate the potential real-world applications of mobile speech communication, spoken document retrieval, adaptive dialogue systems, voice portals, speaker authentication, speech translation and multimodal human-machine interfaces. Our aim is to report the state-of-the-art technologies related to Chinese Language and, hopefully, bridge them with up-to-date advances in international spoken language technologies. Prospective authors are invited to submit their innovative work to this special issue. We are soliciting paper submissions in topical areas including, but not limited to: * Acoustic modeling and speech recognition for vehicular and mobile environments * Linguistic processing and language modeling for natural conversational interfaces * Information retrieval of spoken documents, broadcast news transcription * Language generation and speech synthesis technologies * Spoken language systems and applications * Speaker recognition, multimodal person authentication * Multilingual speech processing and translation * Audio-visual speech and speaker recognition * Multimodal human machine interaction via speech, face and gesture Submission Deadline: November 30, 2002 Instructions For Authors All manuscripts are subject to anonymous peer review. The style for manuscripts is available at the homepage of the International Journal of Speech Technology (http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/1381-2416). Although paper copies of submissions are acceptable, electronic submissions in Postscript, PDF or MS Word are strongly encouraged. Submissions should be sent as e-mail attachments to Prof. J.-T.
