Acceptance of terms

By using isca-speech.org, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions ('Terms') of use. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use this web site. The International Speech Communication Association ('ISCA') provides these web site services to you, the user, conditioned upon your acceptance, without modification, of the Terms contained herein. Your use of isca-speech.org constitutes your agreement with such Terms.

ISCA reserve the right, at its discretion, to change, modify, add or remove portions of these Terms periodically. Such modifications shall be effective immediately upon posting of the modified Terms to isca-speech.org. Your continued use of the isca-speech.org web site following the posting of changes to these Terms will mean that you accept those changes.

In addition, each user's use of a particular isca-speech.org services may be subject to specific guidelines or rules posted from time to time on the web site and incorporated into the Terms. Use of isca-speech.org and/or its services constitutes full acceptance of and agreement to the Terms; if a user does not accept our Terms, he or she is not granted rights to use isca-speech.org or any of its services, as defined herein, and should refrain from accessing isca-speech.org and its services.

To update the Terms, isca-speech.org will both post the changed version and its effective date at http://isca-speech.org/terms.html. If ISCA change any service-specific Rules, ISCA will post the changed version on the location where those service-specific rules normally appear, reference the change on the primary page for that service and include a link to the previous version of the terms or rules. ISCA reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, isca-speech.org or any service thereon (or any part thereof). ISCA shall not be liable to any user or other third party for any such modification, suspension or discontinuance except as expressly provided herein.

 


 

No unlawful or prohibited use


By using the isca-speech.org web site, you warrant to ISCA that you will not use isca-speech.org, or any of the content obtained from the web site, for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms. If you violate any of these Terms, your permission to use the isca-speech.org web site automatically terminates.
Description of Service

Isca-speech.org is a web site owned and operated by ISCA for the purpose of promoting and fostering development in Speech Communication Science and Technology, both in industrial and academic areas, covering all the aspects of Speech Communication (Acoustics, Phonetics, Phonology, Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition, etc.).

ISCA currently offers users access to a variety of on-line resources and content. To use these isca-speech.org services, each user must independently obtain access to the World Wide Web, either directly or through devices that access Web-based content, and pay any and all service fees or equipment costs associated with such access.


 

Membership registration


Members are required by ISCA to provide true, accurate, current and complete information for registration purposes.

Each member will receive a password and account designation upon completing the ISCA registration process and is wholly responsible for maintaining the confidentiality thereof and wholly liable for all activities occurring thereunder. ISCA cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from a user's failure to comply with this, including any loss or damage arising from any user's failure to (a) immediately notify ISCA of any unauthorized use of his or her password or account or any other breach of security and (b) ensure that he or she exits from his or her account at the end of each session.

ISCA handles user registration data in accordance with the isca-speech.org Privacy Statement (see below).

This web site and its content, other than content posted by users / members of ISCA is copyright of ISCA 2006. All rights reserved.

All information (data, text, software, music, sound, photographs, graphics, video, messages or any other materials whatsoever ("Content"), posted by users / members, on isca-speech.org, is the sole responsibility of the person from which such Content originated. This means that the user / member, and not ISCA, is entirely responsible for all Content that he or she uploads and posts on isca-speech.org. No user / member shall transmit Content or otherwise conduct or participate in any activities on isca-speech.org, in the judgment of ISCA, is likely to be prohibited by law in any applicable jurisdiction, including laws governing the encryption of software, the export of technology, the transmission of obscenity or the permissible uses of intellectual property.

ISCA will not pre-screen or review Content, but ISCA reserves the right to refuse or delete any Content of which it becomes aware that it reasonably deems not to fulfill the appropriate purpose. In addition, ISCA shall have the right (but not the obligation) in its sole discretion to refuse or delete any content that it reasonably considers to violate the Terms or be otherwise illegal.

ISCA, in its sole and absolute discretion, may preserve Content and may also disclose Content if required to do so by law or judicial or governmental mandate or as reasonably determined useful by ISCA to protect the rights, property or personal safety of ISCA, isca-speech.org users / members and the public. ISCA does not control the Content posted on isca-speech.org by users / members and, as such, does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such Content. Under no circumstances will ISCA be liable in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, liability for any errors or omissions in any Content or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted on isca-speech.org.

Each user / member must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with, the use of any Content, including any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such Content.


 

Licensing and related terms applying to content posted on isca-speech.org


Use, reproduction, modification, and other intellectual property rights to content posted on isca-speech.org shall be subject to the terms of any applicable approved license.

With respect to content posted on isca-speech.org the submitting user / member retains ownership of such content.
No resale of service

You agree not to sell, resell or offer for any commercial purposes, any portion of the services, use of the services or access to the services contained within the isca-speech.org web site.


 

Use and storage


ISCA may establish general practices and limits concerning use and storage of isca-speech.org services, as defined by posted service-specific rules. While ISCA will use reasonable efforts to back up site data and make such data available in the event of loss or deletion, ISCA has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any content posted on isca-speech.org.

ISCA reserves the right to archive or delete isca-speech.org membership accounts and related content on expiration of the account.


 

Termination


ISCA may terminate a isca-speech.org user's / member's account at ISCA's discretion and for any reason. ISCA are especially likely to terminate for reasons that include, but are not limited to, the following: 1.) violation of these Terms; 2.) abuse of site resources or attempt to gain unauthorized entry to the site or site resources; 3.) use of isca-speech.org in a manner inconsistent with the purpose of the website; 4.) a user's / member's request for such termination; and 5.) requirement of applicable law, regulation, court or governing agency order.

ISCA's termination of any user's / member's access to isca-speech.org may be effected without notice and, on such termination, ISCA may immediately deactivate or delete the user's / member's account and/or bar any further access to related files. ISCA shall not be liable to any isca-speech.org user / member or other third party for any termination of that user's / member's isca-speech.org access or account hereunder.

ISCA, or a user / member may provide links to other web sites from content posted on isca-speech.org. ISCA exercises no control whatsoever over such other non-ISCA web sites and web-based resources and is not responsible or liable for the availability thereof or the content, advertising, products or other materials thereon. ISCA shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss incurred or suffered by any user in connection therewith. Your access and use of web sites linked to isca-speech.org, including information, material, products and services therein, is solely at your own risk.

Isca-speech.org's privacy statement is applicable only when you are on isca-speech.org. Once you choose to link to another web site, you are advised to read that web site's privacy statement before disclosing any personal information.


 

Indemnity


Each user shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless ISCA (and isca-speech.org) and their respective officers, employees and agents from any and all claims, demands, damages, costs and liabilities, including reasonable legal fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of that user's acts or omissions, including claims arising out of that user's use of isca-speech.org; his or her submission, posting or transmission of content or his or her violation of the Terms.


 

Disclaimer of Warranties


Each user's / members' use of isca-speech.org is at his or her sole risk. Isca-speech.org services are provided on an "as is" basis and ISCA assumes no responsibility deletion, mis-delivery or failure to store any data and content. Each isca-speech.org user / member will be solely responsible for any damage to his or her computer system or loss of data that results from the download of any such material. ISCA expressly disclaims all warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied. Specifically, isca-speech.org makes no warranty that (i) isca-speech.org will meet your requirements, (ii) any user / member access will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, (iii) the quality of content accessed by the user / member will meet his or her expectations. Excluding only damages arising out if ISCA's gross negligence or willful misconduct, ISCA shall not be liable for for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, including but not limited to damages for loss of property, profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if ISCA has been advised of the possibility of such damages), resulting from any user's / member's use or inability to use isca-speech.org ; the cost of procurement of substitute services; unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; statements or conduct of any third party on isca-speech.org or any service; or any other matter relating to isca-speech.org or any service. Nothing herein shall be deemed to create an agency, partnership, joint venture, employee-employer or franchisor-franchisee relationship of any kind between ISCA and any user or other person or entity nor do these terms of service extend rights to any third party. As noted above, ISCA does not and cannot control the actions of isca-speech.org users / members, visitors or linked third parties. ISCA reserve the right to report any malfeasance that comes to our attention to the appropriate authorities. ISCA does not guarantee continuous uninterrupted or secure access to isca-speech.org. Operation of isca-speech.org may be subject to interference from numerous factors outside of ISCA's control. Further, scheduled and preventive maintenance as well as required and emergency maintenance work may temporarily interrupt services or access to the web site. The disclaimers of warranty and limitations of liability apply, without limitation, to any damages or injury caused by the failure of performance, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, computer virus, communication line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, alteration of or use of any asset, whether arising out of breach of contract, tortious behaviour, negligence or any other course of action by ISCA.


 

Limitation of liability


In no event shall ISCA, ISCA officers, directors, employees or ISCA suppliers be liable for lost profits or any special, incidental or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with isca-speech.org or this agreement (however arising, including negligence).


 

Release


In the event that you have a dispute with one or more isca-speech.org users / members, you release ISCA (and ISCA officers, directors and employees) from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with such disputes.
Fraud

Without limiting any other remedies, ISCA may suspend or terminate your isca-speech.org account if ISCA suspect that you have engaged in fraudulent activity in connection with isca-speech.org.

You shall comply with all applicable domestic and international laws, statutes, ordinances and regulations regarding your use of isca-speech.org.

This privacy policy sets out how the International Speech Communication Association ('ISCA') uses and protects any information that you provide when you use this web site.

ISCA is committed to ensuring that users / members privacy is protected.

ISCA may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. This policy is effective from January 2007.

 


 

What information ISCA collects


ISCA may collect the following information related to membership of ISCA: -

  • name and title;
  • contact information including email address;
  • demographic information such as post code, preferences and interests.

ISCA does not collect any personal information on users / members other than information directly related to membership and this information is used to help support and improve the services that isca-speech.org and ISCA provides.

ISCA uses traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps ISCA to analyse data about web page traffic and improve the isca-speech.org web site in order to tailor it better to users / members needs. ISCA only uses this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

ISCA also uses cookies to manage member sessions and the cookies are destroyed once the member logs out of the appropriate section of the web site. No personal information is held by ISCA relating to members' sessions.


 

Access


Members can view the data held by ISCA on their personal profile page. Members are able to update their personal information directly through the isca-speech.org web site.
What ISCA does with the information we gather

ISCA uses the information on members to help support and improve the services that isca-speech.org and ISCA provides and for no other purposes.

ISCA will not sell, distribute or lease personal information to third parties. ISCA will only release personal information to the appropriate legislative authority if required to do so by law.
