Portfolio of Board Members


President

  • Represent the association to the outside
  • Steer and organise the work within the association
  • Maintain and further develop the services provided by the association

Vice-President

  • Assist the President in coordinating ISCA affairs
  • Be responsible for ISCA new initiatives and long term planning
  • Communicate with the ISCA Board on ISCA affairs
Secretary General
  • Organize the agenda for all Board meetings, along with the President, and take notes
  • Organize the agenda for general assembly (IGA), along with the President, and counts attendance/votes and take notes
  • Schedule elections (board/IAC) and nominations (awards/fellows)
  • Arrange certificates/plaques/medals for awards
  • (Update website and ML)
  • (Make indexing application of IS proceedings)

Treasurer

  • Keep books and records of ISCA's financial state such that its assets and obligations may be established at all times
  • Compile a year-final balance, propose a budget for the subsequent year and an extrapolation for a window of several years
  • Supported by ISCA's assistant secretary/treasurer who takes care of day-to-day accounting operations


Communication

  • Content editor of ISCA Newsroom
  • Solicit and integrate information from sub-committee
  • Enhance information flow within the ISCA community
  • Maintain recency of information visible to the interested public
  • Liaison with ISCApad editor
  • Manage ISCA Web that provides the archives of information, the latest updates of activities, and announcements concerning the development of the association
  • Manage ISCA membership portal, ISCA Board portal, election portal, ISCApad portal and student portal that provide a quality service to ISCA membership.
  • Review and maintain the content of ISCA Web on a regular basis, and to serve as a liaison to facilitate the communication among the ISCA Web, ISCApad, ISCA Archive, and ISCA Video Archive.
  • Initiate and oversee new services that ISCA Web may provide.

Conference Coordinators

    • Supervise all scientific and logistic aspects of the current conference organization from the ISCA perspective
    • Provide guidance and support to current conference organizers
    • Advise and check to stay on track with respect to organization timeline
    • Promote their liaison with other Board members in charge of specific issues 
    • Wrap up past conferences and check final budget in collaboration with the Treasurer
    • Define and update the INTERSPEECH Guidelines
    • Identify potential future conference organizers
    • Coordinate the bids and decision process, provide guidance on bids
    • Support the ISCA President and future organizers to negotiate the contract
    • Provide guidance and support to future organizers
    • Organize the Interspeech Steering Committee meeting at each Interspeech event

    Diversity

    • Chair the diversity committee whose role it is to make recommendations to the ISCA board and organisers of ISCA conferences and workshops on all matters relating to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

    Education and Training

    • Education and Training
    • Prepare the proposal of the ISCA Training Schools
    • Monitor the process (at least in the beginning) of selection etc. of ISCA Training Schools
    • Organize the first ISCA Lectures

    Ethics

    • To draft/revise code-of-ethics
    • To handle unethical cases such as plagiarism in submitted papers to IS
    • To handle no-show cases in IS
    • To handle harassment cases in conferences/workshops

    Fellows

    • To make the Fellow selection process working smoothly through the following actions.
    • To encourage nominations if necessary.
    • To summarize the nominations and send them to ISCA Fellow selection committee (and ISCA president and ISCA Secretary) requesting to start the selection process. 
    • To arrange ISCA Fellow Selection committee meeting at each INTERSPEECH event with the help of ISCA administrative assistant (Emmanuelle). 
    • To update the content of Fellow page of ISCA Web anytime when it is necessary by contacting ISCA administrative assistant and ISCA web.

    Industry

    • Represent industry needs to ISCA by collecting information from industry affiliates
    • Solicit participation from new affiliates
    • Solicit Fellow nominations from Industry, urge Industry support for ISCA activities
    • Solicit Industry for Fellow and Reviewer nominations.

    Foundation

    • Solicit support and establish a framework for Named Awards.

    ISCA Distinguished Lecturer (DL)

    • Keep contact with ISCA DL nomination committee.
    • Help arrangements of trips for nominated DLs.
    • Update DL pages of ISCA Website.
    • Update DL Guideline: How to nominate, contact hosts, arrange trips, how to introduce ISCA, make slides, give a talk in the lectures, how to write a report and upload to ISCA archive.
    • Remind and update objectives of the ISCA DL: DL trips -> ISCA Workshop -> INTERSPEECH by being an ambassador of ISCA.

    Grants

    • Administer, process and allocate Travel Grants for students and young scientists
      - Grants for INTERSPEECH from ISCA and INTERSPEECH organizers (~60 grants)
      - Grants for other events organized or supported by ISCA 
    Awards
      • Organize Best student paper award selection at INTERSPEECH
      • Procure certificates, plaques etc. to accompany awards and prizes presented at INTERSPEECH
        - Computer Speech and Language best paper
        - Speech Communication best paper
        - Best student paper at INTERSPEECH
        - ISCA Fellows diplomas
        ISCA Medal
        - ISCA Service medal

      Publication and Archives

      • To liaise with indexing bodies
      • To handle copyright and plagiariasm issues
      • To liaise with Speech Communication and Computer Speech and Language (e.g. Best Paper Awards)
      • To oversee ISCA archive
      • To design Video Archive

      Special Interest Group

      • Board contact for Topic-SIGs

      • Keep updates of Language-Sig networks
      • Encourage to organize Language-Sigs workshops and summer/winter workshops

      • Encourage to host ISCA Distinguished Lecturers.
      • Arrange for yearly SIG lunch at Interspeech. 
      • Solicit SIGs for Fellow, and reviewer nominations.
      • Respond to typical questions ("we want to have a workshop, can this be approved?" "how can we get funding/admin help?").
      • Encourage SIGs to contribute to ISCAPad (periodic reminders). 
      • Help new SIGs get off the ground ("how do I form a SIG?" "What is the format for elections?". "Can I get financial support?") 
      • Encourage SIGs to get proceedings indexed and to archive; encourage SIGs to submit special issues to our journals. 
      • Ensure that non-SIG activities are coordinated with SIGs.

      Student Liaison

      To interface between the ISCA Student Advisory Committee (SAC) and the ISCA Board, including but not limited to:

      • Facilitation in call for participation for students as volunteers and also as officers in the SAC,
      • Facilitation in coordination and organization of student activities such as the “Students meet Experts”, “Young Researchers’ Roundtable” and “Student discovers Industrial Challenges” in Interspeech conferences and ISCA Workshops,
      • Facilitation in seeking sponsorship and support for student involvement in ISCA activities and events, e-archiving of ISCA events, SAC publicity and SAC-related web content posting,
      • Organization of the SAC meeting in Interspeech conferences
      • General support for all student-related issues

      Technical Committee

      •  Serve as resource for and to simplify the transfer of information from one Interspeech to the next
      •  Composed of 5 to 7 members, including Technical Chairs from a rolling set of 5 Interspeech conferences
      • Oversee contact with Softconf (START review system)
      • Maintain and update the list of IS Areas and topics
      •  Oversee ISCA reviewer base

      Workshops

      • Encouraging Tutorial Workshops for emerging new sub-disciplines
      • Processing workshop applications
      • Liaising with workshop organisers, agreeing dates and eliciting reports
      • Exploring new avenues for scientific meeting such as virtual conferencing
